Living On Purpose – How To Develop a Strategic Plan for Your Life is a 13-week, Biblically-based course developed for inmates either facing or in the process of reentry and transition from incarceration to freedom. Popular motivational speaker Zig Ziglar was fond of saying, "Most people aim at nothing in life and hit it on the nose every time!" This material guides each student in discovering his or her unique life purpose.
Each student receives an individual workbook free of charge to participate in the course. For every copy of the book you purchase an additional copy is set aside for any inmate who requests at copy. The material includes many Biblical insights and principles and is organized around 3 core components:
- Analyze: 7 separate assessment tools to help the student discover how he or she is uniquely "wired" by God. The accompanying sample Table of Contents lists these topics. The purpose of this section is to assist the student in "looking in the mirror" to grasp an accurate reflection of how God has "fearfully and wonderfully" knit them together (Psalm 139). These assessments are not "tests" with a pass or fail response. Rather, they are tools to help the student understand why they look at life the way they do . . . and why that view is often different from the view of others. Not necessarily "right" or "wrong"; just different.
- Adjust: A section that includes worksheets on Time and Change. This is a natural follow up to the first section. The popular definition of insanity is used: "To keep repeating the same behavior while expecting a different result." Inmates, especially those who have experienced multiple convictions and periods of incarceration, require a loving, yet head-on confrontation with destructive behavioral patterns. Equally important, however, is the need for strong and practical guidance to make the adjustments required to leave those behavior patterns forever behind.
- Accomplish: This final section includes a series of exercises to take the Life Purpose Statement that each student has now developed and translate it into action steps that will lead to a success, obedient, godly life. The primary work is based on highly successful corporate strategic planning techniques that have been translated into personal application.
